A DVD rental. The Brothers Grimm puts a unique spin on children’s fairy tales. Very early on the film lets you know what type of film it’s going to be. I went in thinking it was going to be like Van Helsing. It had a similar feel but has a level of finish well beyond that of Van Helsing. I was entertained to see a new twist on childhood fairy tales but left wanting in development of story and character. I think this film was confused with what audience it was for. They had death, and some blood followed by slapstick comedy and no substance. The director does handle the film nicely so grab some if it sounds like something you’re interested in grab some soda and popcorn but don’t worry about talking during this film.
